He had many friendships within his online communities, where he found connection, humor, and meaningful bonds. Jared was also a passionate advocate for politics and personal rights. He loved discussing current issues with his mom. He cared deeply about fairness, equality, and the dignity of others, and he proudly supported the Grand Rapids Pride Center. One of the most important people in Jared’s life was his best friend, Haley. Together, they shared countless adventures, visiting the zoo, attending Comic-Con, and exploring their many shared media interests. Their friendship was constant, comforting, and full of laughter. Even now, Jared continued his lifelong spirit of giving by being a part of Gift of Life, ensuring that others could be helped through his generosity. Jared’s family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all who have supported Jared’s Team over the years in fundraising and awareness efforts for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Your kindness, encouragement, and generosity meant the world to Jared and to those who loved him. Jared and I shared many interests. He was always into Pokemon and we would discuss the newest games whenever we saw each other. He had even gotten decently far in a famous ROM hack called Emerald Kaizo, which I was impressed by. He was also a fan of some great manga, and had much better taste than me. I’d like to get around to reading his favorites sometime.
I am so sorry to read this news. I had the pleasure of teaching Jared’s 6th grade drama class. I only had him in class for a short period of time, but the joy and light he brought to our class has stayed with me through the years.
I never knew jared personally. But we went to school together and that man was always positive. Always had a smile on his face, always had a positive attitude. I wish I got to know him more through the school years. May god bless you jared and I hope you’re living an awesome life in the afterlife 🙏 🕊️
Few people can match the strength and perseverance of Jared. He changed our family forever. Coaching him was an honor, a privilege. His bright smile and “we can do it” attitude was a force to be reckoned. He never took second or third place as good enough. His willingness to think outside the box and NEVER let some disadvantages get in the way helped inspire years of successful Odyssey of the mind teams to State and WORLD competitions. God speed young man. I hope to be a fraction of the inspiration you are to us.
One of my favorite video games ever on the DS was Fossil Fighters and the subsequent games. I’ve always loved it since I was a kid, so much so that I even made a concept for a new Fossil Fighters game. I don’t know if I ever would have seen it and been able to play without Jared because the first time I ever saw the game was when I saw him play it. I will always have those many hours of joy playing that game I love because of Jared.
May you know God’s Love eternally, Jared.
Jeff, Sue, Bonna, Family,
