On the evening of May 23, 2024, we lost our beautiful daughter, granddaughter, sister, cousin and friend Grace Justice Liu HuiWen Ruark in Chicago at the young age of 24. She blessed the world with her sunny smiles, caring demeanor and immense creative talent since her day of birth.
Grace was born in Grand Rapids on August 9, 1999, lived most of her life in the Lansing area, and graduated from Grand Ledge High School. She had been living in Chicago for the past four and a half years.
Grace is survived by her parents Ling Liu and Peter Ruark of Lansing, Michigan, her sister Sophia Harmony Liu HuiShi Ruark of Clovis, New Mexico, her maternal grandparents, 刘育耕 and 魏清秀 of Changsha, Hunan, China, her paternal grandparents Naomi and James Ruark of Grand Rapids, Michigan, and many caring cousins. She also leaves behind her beloved husky, Loki.
Grace was an immensely talented visual artist with an eye for light, space, and human expression, and she used her talent to create many drawings and paintings since she was a very young child. She hoped to carry this talent into her calling as a tattoo artist to bring the beauty she had been creating on paper and canvas to the human body. She also had an eye for hair, makeup, and fashion, and enthusiastically helped her friends look their best.
When Grace looked into your eyes, you knew she cared. She framed her words carefully to avoid hurting your feelings. When she was delighted, her eyes sparkled. When she saw someone discouraged or upset, she did whatever she could to provide sympathy and comfort. Her personality was frequently described by those who knew and loved her as “genuine” and “pure.”
The memorial service for Grace will be at 3:30 on Saturday, June 1 at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 7910 E St Joe Hwy, Lansing, MI 48917 (Corner of St. Joseph Highway and Broadbent in Delta Township).
