Gill was born on March 7, 1941, in High Wycombe, England to Sydney and Margaret (Coltman) Abbott, the youngest of three siblings. All her formal education was completed in High Wycombe, located 35 miles northwest of London. She became a licensed manicurist in England and later in Kansas City, MO. She moved to America in 1963. She always said her proudest accomplishments were giving birth to her daughter and son and becoming an American citizen in 1977. She became a dental assistant and self-taught wedding cake designer and baker for several years in Greenville, MI. Coming from England she didn’t understand American sports, until 1984 when she happened to be watching the Super Bowl. During a 30-year period from 1985 to 2015 she road with her husband, on three different Goldwing touring motorcycles, traveling to the four corners of the U.S. and a total of over 180,000 miles. Whether it was just a local countryside ride, or a 20-day cross country ride she would always say “That was Great”. She loved flying with her husband in their Cessna. She loved playing casino Blackjack, golf (including a hole in one), and fishing, throughout Michigan and Montana. She was a dear friend to anyone she met and spent time with. Her wry sense of humor, teasing nature, laughter and hugs will be greatly missed. She was proceeded in death by her English parents; son, Craig Jones; grandson, Sean Jones; and brother-in-law, Jim Gamm. She is survived by her husband, Richard; daughter, Dawn and her husband, Mike TenBrink; loving stepdaughter, Lori Cason; sister-in-law, Merry Gamm; brothers-in-law, Jon and wife Loretta, Bob and wife Julie, Tom and wife Sharon; numerous nephews and nieces here and in England; her English brother, Mike Abbott and wife Merle; and sister, Shirely Budd in Washington state.

  1. Look up the word “LADY” and you will find it defined as, “Gill Gamm.” Miss you already, sis. Prayers to Richard, Dawn, and all the others that knew and loved her. Jon & Loretta

  2. Gillian was a very special person with a great smile and witty sense of humor. She was kind, thoughtful, supportive, and just plain fun to be around. We will miss her dearly, and send our prayers of comfort to Richard, Dawn, Mike and all those who were a part of her life.
    Love, Bob and Julie

  3. When I’ve mentioned Aunt Gill to those who’ve never met her, I find myself with the biggest smile on my face remembering, and describing, her perfectly-timed sense of humor, sassy, fun, and quick-witted nature, and just how much I so loved being around her. What a blessing to have had such a cool woman like her as part of my upbringing. She’s sorely missed. Sending all my love to Uncle Dick, Dawn, Mike, and to everyone who loved her.

  4. LOVED Aunt Gill! Others have already put into perfect words to describe her: funny, great sense of humor, sassy, quick witted, and lovely. She taught us how to flip the bird English style! Lol!! Seriously though, she’s already missed but I know she’s up in Heaven with Uncle Jim and Grandma and Grandpa having a blast of a time cracking jokes and laughing! Can’t wait to see them all again some day! ❤️

  5. Gill started my love for Scrabble! She was the smartest one of the two of us! We played that darn game for 51 precious years. Although we invited Dawn to play after her retirement, we only let Richard play once. lol I miss you my friend…..
    Love, Barb and Dennis Petersen
