George W. Roby, age 80, of Grand Rapids passed away peacefully Saturday, August 17, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Meryl; and daughter, Kerry Hutchins. George is survived by his wife, Glenda “GG”; children, Leigh, Richard, Stephanie (Brad), Stacia (Steven); grandchildren, Aiden, Alison, Elyse, Cordell, Richard, Olivia, Ryah, Sabrina; 14 great-grandchildren; cousins, Jana, Jacque (Bob), Lonnie; aunt, Nee Nee; and family members, Rebecca, Matthew (Melissa) & family, Lizzy & family. George attended El Dorado Springs High School and Pittsburgh State University. He worked as a teacher at Grand Rapids Public Schools and was a manager of the catalog warehouse at Amway. George belonged to the Anton Group and men’s bible study. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, singing, artistry, and fishing. Visitation will be held at Ada Bible Cascade Campus, 8899 Cascade Rd SE, Ada, MI 49301, Thursday, August 29, 2024, at 10am, funeral services at 11am, with a luncheon to follow. Pastor Doug Redford officiating. George was always friendly to me and would stop in my office when in the area to say hi and have a candy bar. I was given the name of candyman for my sweets. RIP George.
