Estelle Lois Stark

Estelle Lois Stark, aged 91, peacefully went to be with her Lord on May 27, 2026, in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Born on November 28, 1934, in Lowell Township, Michigan, Estelle was the daughter of Leslie and Leona (Morrison) Hobbs. Estelle grew up in the Alto area and was a 1952 graduate of Lowell High School.

In February 1952, Estelle started dating Harvey Stark. The couple married on August 7, 1953, and enjoyed 72 years of marriage. Their union was blessed with three children.

Estelle loved being a stay-at-home mom, enjoying the activities and sports her children took part in. She also enjoyed the secretarial jobs she had while in Hawaii and for Westdale Realty in Ada, Michigan. In the Saugatuck/Douglas area, she was the co-owner/manager of two mobile home parks.

Estelle enjoyed many hobbies, a few being gardening, fishing, camping, and traveling. She was always ready to play dominos, cribbage and other board and card games. Be ready, she would be playing to win.

Estelle also enjoyed playing softball. She was instrumental in starting girls’ softball in Lowell, Michigan.

At the many places she and Harvey lived and at the many churches they were members, Estelle was always a Sunday school teacher. She loved telling young children about Jesus. She herself being nine years old when she accepted Jesus into her life.

Estelle cherished their many road trips, traveling extensively across the United States, Mexico, Alaska, and Hawaii. Her favorite trip being a RV Africa adventure with Harvey. Estelle also enjoyed camping trips and camping at the lake in Trufant, Michigan. She especially loved camping with her children, grandchildren, and grand fur pups.

Estelle and Harvey supported, and took part, in many church related missions. They had two mission trips with Samaritan’s Purse, one to Mississippi and one to New Orleans, to help people rebuild after Hurricane Katrina.

Estelle is survived by her husband, Harvey Stark. Her children, Nancy Stark (Ben Wells), Lynda Mercer (Ron Mercer), and Dale Stark (Allison Stark). Her grandchildren, Aaron Stark (Maddie), Alex Mercer (Brittney) and Lauren ‘Stark’ Luurtsema (Calvin). And her great grandson, Easton Stark. Her brothers-in-law, Jim Stark, Gordy Stark, and Tom Stark (Pam). And many nieces and nephews who she loved and cherished.

Estelle was preceded in death by her parents Leslie and Leona Hobbs, her parents-in-law Harvey and Emma Stark, her siblings and their spouses Elaine Neargarth (Ruben), Eleanor Dintaman (Paul), Eloise Courter (Jim), Evelyn Courter (Bill), Charles Hobbs (Helen), and Howard Hobbs (Helen). Her sisters-in-law, Dorena Stark and Carroll Bouwhuis.

Visitation will take place Wednesday, June 3, 2026, from 2:00-4:00pm and 6:00-8:00pm at Roth-Gerst Funeral Home, 305 N. Hudson, Lowell, MI 49331. Interment will be held 11:00am, Thursday, June 4, 2026, at Trufant Cemetery.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, June 27, 2026, from 1:00 – 4:00pm at 1385 Black Road, Trufant, MI 49347.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Samaritan’s Purse.
