Edward James “Ed” Karlovich, beloved husband, father, and teacher, finished his earthly journey April 25, 2024. He was 95.
Ed will be remembered for his compassionate and gentle spirit. A lifelong educator, Ed guided generations of children and young adults as a teacher, elementary school principal, and Professor of Education, and in his capacity as father of nine and stepfather of five. A World War II veteran, Ed was commended by the United States Army for his sound judgment and ability to inspire others.
An avid reader, Ed encouraged vigorous discussion in his classroom and around the dinner table. He shared his love of learning and strong work ethic; he was also generous with his time, money, and laughter, delighting grandchildren with an impromptu drum concert or polka dancing in the living room. He enjoyed exploring nature, walking with his wife, tending his “silent ones” in the garden, and downing several cups of coffee a day.
Ed’s example of a life well-lived is a gift to all who knew him. He showed us how to cherish our spouses, treasure our children, and to treat all with loving kindness. He taught us to think for ourselves, to share our talents, to find joy and create beauty in our world.
In death, Ed joins his first wife Barbara Karlovich, sons Eddie and Jimmy Karlovich, parents Nick and Mary Karlovich, brothers George and Fred Karlovich, and sister Anne Juszczak.
Ed’s legacy will be carried on by his second wife Marcia Bailey, sons John (Donna), Paul (Paula), David (Patty), Robert (Susan), and Micheal (Yen) Karlovich, daughters Kathy Johnson and Jane (Don) Siler, stepdaughters Ann (Rand) Westlund, Simone (Dan) Kimball, Renee Bailey, Elizabeth Logan, and Rachel (Kevin) Bailey, as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
