Douglas Alan Whitmore, age 82, of Lowell, formerly of Vermontville, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 16, 2026.
Doug is survived by his wife of 62 years, Josephine “Joie” Whitmore; children, Scott Whitmore and Stephanie (Bryan) Sherman; grandchildren, Trevor (Quinne) Sherman, Lucas (Griffin) Sherman, and Carter Sherman; brother, Rick (Kathy) Whitmore; sister-in-law, Joyce Avery; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Doug was a dedicated employee who retired from Owens Illinois Glass Factory. He and his wife faithfully supported St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Doug enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading westerns, and camping, but his most important and favorite activity was attending everything he could for his grandchildren. They were truly the light of his life.
Doug was all about family and friends. Most importantly, he was a loving and devoted husband who cherished the life he shared with Joie and his family.

This world lost one of the very best. We will certainly miss Doug, but cherish our memories of him. If I had one wish it would be that every child grow up with a Doug & Joie in their lives. I’m beyond grateful mine did. I would say they just don’t make them like Doug Whitmore anymore, but then I see his grandsons. What a legacy of love he has left behind!
Beyond grateful to have had the opportunity to get to know Doug and Joie. He always had a smile and greeted us warmly. I know such a huge presence will be missed greatly by you all. I know he will be continuing to cheer for the entire family from Heaven.
Dearest Whitmore Family,
May the light shine brighter, as the gate of heavens door, opened for your loved one. What a pleasant man they will have.
Sending our sympathy, prayers
Love,
Lamar & Kari Wagler
