Cynthia Louise McConnell, formerly Schwab and born Cynthia Caffey, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family.
She is survived by her daughters Connie Hamilton, Nicole Griffith (Jack), and Kristina Wodarek (James); and six loving grandchildren: Trey, Luke, Allie, Anna, JT, and Izzy.
Cyndi was a trailblazer in business, growing and successfully leading SOS Express, a statewide courier company, during a time when few women owned their own businesses. Her determination, strength, and drive shaped its success and reflected the high standards she carried throughout her life.
Cyndi had a vibrant personality, a discerning eye for the finer things, and a confident sense of sophistication and independence. Known for her appreciation of quality, she loved Coca-Cola and never believed in substituting the real thing. Her creativity and talent were reflected in her paintings, sewing projects, and handmade crafts.
Family and friends are invited to gather in her honor on Sunday, October 26, 2025, from 3–5 p.m. at O’Brien-Eggebeen-Gerst Funeral Home, 3980 Cascade Road SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546. Those who wish may send flowers or make a donation to Faith Hospice of Grand Rapids, whose care and compassion supported Cyndi and her family through her final journey.
Cyndi now joins her husband, Michael McConnell; her parents, Howard and Astrid Caffey; her brother, Mike Caffey; and her sister, Jill Sebald.

I will always remember my grandmother as the woman who sparked and cultivated my creativity and desire to create. Her lifelong dedication to art and craft in her personal life, on top of her commitment to hard work in her professional life I truly admire, and will take with me for the rest of my life.
Although I didn’t know Cyndi, I know her daughter, Connie, and she must have been special, given the kind human being that Connie is. I hope her memory is cherished by those who knew her and that her life is remembered fondly.
Cyndi and I were “across-the-street neighbors in Florida for the past several years. We had different opinions on several things, ie Coke versus Diet Coke , and enjoyed our lively discussions about them. She faced many health issues bravely. And what a beautiful smile! She is already missed!
Thank you for posting on Facebook. Your Mom was beautiful inside and out. She hosted several Princess House parties with me and was a joy to be around. My sincere condolences are with you and you will be in my prayers.
I only knew you in your later years. It was an honor and pleasure to know you and support you. Your daughter and champion (in every way) Connie has redefined what it means to honor thy mother and father. I am sad you are gone and will miss “driving miss Cyndi.”
