David Mohan, 87, of Grand Rapids, MI, passed away on August 5 after an extended illness. He is survived by his devoted wife of 66 years, Lilly Larkin Mohan; his son Michael (Michelle) Mohan; his daughters Mary (John) Hendrickson and Sheila Noel; and his daughters-in-law Janet Mohan and Anne Mohan. David also leaves behind eleven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sons Kevin Mohan and Steve Mohan, his grandson Charlie Hendrickson, and his great-granddaughter Harper Saunders. David met his future wife Lilly during their freshman year at Grand Rapids Catholic Central High School, where they exchanged notes in class under the aliases “Honeybee” and “Baby Doll.” A dedicated provider from a young age, David started his first business at nine years old with his famous pop stand. His banking career began at Union Bank while attending Grand Rapids Community College and he joined the bank full time upon graduation from Western Michigan University, ultimately retiring from JPMorgan Chase in 2000. David was a quintessential gentleman, and his generous spirit extended to his family, his Catholic Church, and countless community organizations. He served on the boards of Saint John’s Home, Saint Mary’s Hospital, the Bishop’s Committee, to name a few. David was also actively involved in his Deerfield Beach, Florida Penthouse community, where with Lilly he enjoyed the warmer weather in retirement. Known affectionately as “Grandpa Chas,” David cherished camping trips and skiing with his family, golfing with Lilly, and maintaining his cars and yard with meticulous care. He relaxed that spotless care a little bit when his grandchildren came along, threatening his meticulously painted walls with their little hands. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to D.A. Blodgett-St. John’s in support of children and families in West Michigan. Please join us in celebrating a life well lived by raising a glass of Chardonnay in honor of David. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, August 23rd at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church (1935 Plymouth Ave, Grand Rapids, MI 49506). The service will begin at 11am with a visitation prior to mass at 10am.

Lil and family, I was so sorry to hear about the loss of Dave. I will always remember the many fun times we had, with fondness. You two were wonderful friends and I know he will be missed by many. I will continue to keep you all in my thoughts and prayers as you grieve the loss of your husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
Sending Peace and love, Judy
