Bruce Ronald Sabin, age 66, died of natural causes in his home in Ada on August 2, 2024.
Bruce was the eldest son of Ronald (Nellie) Sabin and beloved brother of Jody (Scott) DeVecht and Douglas (Jocelyn) Sabin; the step-brother of Tom (Lisa) Geerlings. His favorite time was spent with family, especially watching his nieces, Ashley (Steve) Bedford and Shawney (Ben) Anderson grow up; and hanging out with his nephews, Angelo and Andrew DeBonte. He delighted in babysitting his great nieces and nephews Remi, Isra, Finn, Marley and Titus. Bruce is preceded in death by his mother, Evelyn Schepman; and step-sister, Cathy Geerlings.
Bruce received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Civil Engineering from Michigan Tech University and worked for FTCH and F&V Engineering. But his real passion was for his family and the great outdoors.
Bruce was always all-in for any family project. He could be found helping to take down trees, painting the new house or fixing just about anything you could think of. He was also known in the family as the “child-whisperer” as he loved holding babies and playing with toddlers — and they adored him right back! He was always generous and available to babysit. He never missed a family gathering or reunion — we called him our “family historian”.
Bruce loved spending time with friends in Northern Michigan boating and fishing. He could spin a good fish tale as he shared his catch with family. He valued his trips with his long-time fishing buddies, especially going to Isle Royale, and visits with his close-knit neighbors.
Visitation will be held on August 28, 2024, from 10am – 12pm at O’Brien-Eggebeen-Gerst Funeral Home, 3980 Cascade Road SE, Grand Rapids, Michigan 49546.
