Betty Jean Tompkins, age 92, of Grand Rapids passed away peacefully with her husband by her side Thursday, June 22, 2023. She was preceded in death by her parents, John & Elizabeth Nowak; and son-in-law, Scott Kurth. Betty is survived by her husband of 69 years, Jack Tompkins; children, Brian (Maureen) Tompkins, Jeffrey (Juliet) Tompkins, Lisa Kurth, Kevin (Mary) Tompkins, Scott (Amy) Tompkins, Monique (Larry) Bartosh; 18 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren with one on the way; siblings, Evelyn Rybicki, John Nowak, Charlene Burns, and Margaret (Charles) Wila. Betty loved her family endlessly. She adored her grandkids and great-grandkids and always supported them in their activities. Betty was known for being quick-witted until the very end. Betty retired from Amway after years of devoted service. She enjoyed gardening, bowling, golfing, and any sports, especially U of M. In her earlier years she and Jack liked to travel south together and enjoyed dancing. Betty was dearly loved and will be missed by all. Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 27, 2023, from 6-8 pm at O’Brien-Eggebeen-Gerst Chapel, 3980 Cascade Rd. SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546 with Rosary service at 7:30 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will take place 11:00 am Wednesday, June 28, 2023, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 9669 Kraft Ave SE, Caledonia, MI 49316, with visitation one hour prior. Rev. Michael Cilibraise presiding. Interment St. Stanislaus Catholic Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Porter Hills Benevolent Fund, 4450 Cascade Rd. SE, Ste. 200, Grand Rapids, MI 49502-4646 or to Holy Family Catholic Church.

We are so sorry for your loss. Norb and Barb had so many fond memories of all the times they went dancing. We are sure she is dancing in heaven now. May God bless you all during this difficult time.
