Bernadine “Bernie” Wurm, age 96 of Kentwood, passed away Friday, April 4, 2025. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clark Wurm; sons, Craig Wurm, Randy Wurm; son-in-law, Gary Gray; niece, Kaycee Kleinhammer; parents, Stanley and Emily Wieczorek; and siblings, Donald Wieczorek, Delores (Harold) Zimmerman, RoseMarie (Tony) DiSisto; parents-in-law, Robert and Lulu Wurm. Bernie is survived by her son, Kim (Paula) Wurm; daughters, Renae (Fred) Gill, Kristan Gray; grandchildren, Pete Wurm, Josh Gill, Shane Wurm, Jacob Wurm, Kelley Gray, Dillon Gray; great grandchildren, Genevieve Wurm, Henrik Wurm, Madelyn Gill, Nora Gill, Brady Bourdon, Aubrey Bourdon, Sidney Wurm, Charlotte Wurm, Amelia Wurm; sister-in-law, Ardell Wieczorek; nieces and nephews, Pam O’Keefe, Mark Wieczorek, Kurt Schmidt, Wendie Graczyk, Julie Johnson, and Donna Bowman.
Bernie was a talented and hard-working Registered Nurse; she graduated from Little Company of Mary Hospital. Bernie worked at St. Mary’s Hospital, Blodgett Hospital, and Cherry Street Health Center. She was extremely dedicated to nursing and patient care. Bernie was very instrumental in the change of uniform from nurses’ caps and white dresses to more modern practical attire, such as pants. Bernie also helped to create the Betty Ford Breast Care Services at Blodgett hospital, a cause near to her heart as a breast cancer survivor herself. In her spare time, she enjoyed baking, gardening, volunteering, playing tennis, hiking, and biking. Above all Bernie enjoyed spending time with her family. Traveling was another passion for Bernie and Clark, they loved their time in Gold Canyon, Arizona, and spent half their time there. She will be incredibly missed by those she loved.
Family will greet friends and relatives from 6-8pm on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at O’Brien-Eggebeen-Gerst Funeral Home, 3980 Cascade Road SE, Grand Rapids, Michigan 49546, with a Rosary starting at 7:30pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11am on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 9669 Kraft Ave. SE, Caledonia, Michigan 49316, with visitation one hour prior. Rev. Michael Cilibraise presiding. Interment Resurrection Cemetery. Memorial Contributions can be made in Bernies honor to Holy Family Catholic Parish Christian Service Outreach.
