Barbara “Barb” Lee Hoatlin (Mocarski) of Grand Rapids, Michigan passed away peacefully on June 27, 2025.
Barb was born in Grand Rapids to the late Joseph and Leona Mocarski on July 12, 1940. She married Terrance Hoatlin on April 15, 1961 at St. Isidore Church in Grand Rapids with whom she spent 64 blessed years.
After graduating from Marywood Academy and Aquanis College, Barb worked as a pediatric and surgical nurse for 25 years at St. Mary’s and Blodgett Hospitals. She continued her passion for people and medicine after retirement working at Dr. Verdier’s ophthalmology practice.
Deeply committed to her faith and community, Barb was an active member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church for many years where she volunteered in their various services and outreach programs.
In her free time, Barb found joy in knitting, puzzles, reading, and hosting, specifically the annual family golf outing known as the Hoatlin Classic which has been ongoing for more than three decades and will continue to be carried on by her loving family.
Barb is preceded in death by her sister, Lois Erwood.
Barb was most devoted to and proud of her family. She was the mother of four sons: Michael (Lynne), Patrick (Mary), Robb (Tracey Hart), and Mark (Holly Zimmer); and she leaves behind seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her dear cousin, Nancy Owens.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11am on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 1935 Plymouth Ave. SE, Grand Rapids, Michigan 49506, with visitation one hour prior. Rev. Troy Nevins presiding.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Emmanuel Hospice, Dementia Society of America, or the Autism Society of Kent County.
