Barbara Ann Gillespie

Barbara Ann Gillespie age 93 of Grand Rapids, died Friday, April 20, 2018.  She was born May 6, 1924 in Grand Rapids, the daughter of Thomas J. and Elizabeth Wilson.  Raised in Grand Rapids, she was a graduate of Catholic Central High School and married Terry Gillespie on June 1, 1946.  Mama was a most humble woman whose thoughts and prayers were always for other people especially her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her new love, her great-great-grandson.  Her daily rosary was always said with an intention for them or someone else in need of a prayer intention.  Mama was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Terry; son, Dan Gillespie; daughters, Sarah Gillespie and Peggy Pittman; son-in-law, Brian Flanagan; brother, Tom Wilson; sister, Mary Lou Howell.  She is survived by her children, Kathleen Flanagan, Tom Gillespie and Sigi, Pat and Carol Gillespie; daughter-in-law, Mary and Jerry Smith; son-in-law, Adell Pittman; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-children; sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Bob Hickey; many nieces, nephews and cousins.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, May 4 at 10:30 AM at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 1449 Wilcox Park Dr. SE, Rev. Jams A. Chelich, presiding, with visitation one hour prior to the service.  Interment Woodlawn Cemetery.  It was her wish that we designate memorial contributions be made to Catholic Charities of West Michigan for God’s Kitchen, 40 Jefferson SE, Grand Rapids, Michigan 49503.
