Ann Marie Kempker, age 88 of Lowell, passed away April 23, 2023. The daughter of Bert & Gladys (Bailard) Thomas, she was born April 1, 1935, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. After graduating Holland High School in 1953 she married her high school sweetheart John “Jack” Kempker. Then she started working as a secretary for Holland Color. In 1961 the family settled in Lowell where Jack was teaching. In 1971 Ann started working for State Savings Bank which transitioned over the years to FMB and then to Huntington Bank. She was a highly valued employee, winning employee of the month. Ann was known to greet her customers with a gracious smile, and she was always so helpful. Ann enjoyed reading and swimming, but most of all taking care of her grandkids. Her family will miss the many wonderful summers spent with her at the family cottage on Beaver Island. Ann is survived by her husband of 70 years, Jack; children, Deb Kempker-Collins, Kathy (Bucky) Curtis, Tom Kempker, Ron Kempker; grandchildren, Mike (Jessica) Curtis, Andy (Arika Williams)Curtis, Chris Curtis, Devon (Adam Benedict) McQueen, Jackson Kempker, Kendall (Jake Murphy) Kempker; great-grandchildren, Isaiah, Gabby, and Christian McQueen, Kyli, Taylor, Hudson, Ella, Macy, Kellen, Henley, Maddox, and Pippa Curtis; sister-in-law, Mary Kempker; nephew, Paul TerBeek; along with many other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Leslie Thomas, Frank J. Thomas, Burton Thomas, Ray Thomas, Frank B. Thomas; sisters, Helen Funckes, and Ida Mae TerBeek; parents-in-law, John & Fayne Kempker, and brother-in-law, Dave Kempker. Visitation with the family will take place from 5-7pm on Thursday, April 27, 2023, at Roth-Gerst Chapel, 305 N. Hudson, Lowell, Michigan 49331.
